Uniformly Querying Knowledge Bases and Data Bases

چکیده
Present kl-one-like knowledge base management systems (KBMS), whilst ooer-ing highly structured description languages aside eecient concepts classiication, have limited capability to manage large amounts of individuals. Data base management systems (DBMS) can, instead, manage large amounts of data eeciently, but give scarce formalism to organize them in a structured way, and to reason with them. This paper shows how assertional knowledge of KBMS and data of DBMS can be uniformly accessed. The query answering capability of an arbitrary KBMS is augmented with the possibility of accessing external databases (DB) as a supplemental source of extensional knowledge. The techniques presented in this paper can be easily adapted to several sources of information. From a knowledge acquisition perspective, we believe that they can be usefully applied in all those applications where several sources of informations are available independently from the knowledge bases.

Querying biomedical Linked Data with natural language questions
Recent and intensive research in the biomedical area enabled to accumulate and disseminate biomedical knowledge through various knowledge bases increasingly available on the Web. The exploitation of this knowledge requires to create links between these bases and to use them jointly. Linked Data, the SPARQL language and interfaces in natural language question answering provide interesting soluti...
متن کاملA Distributional Semantics Approach for Selective Reasoning on Commonsense Graph Knowledge Bases
Tasks such as question answering and semantic search are dependent on the ability of querying & reasoning over large-scale commonsense knowledge bases (KBs). However, dealing with commonsense data demands coping with problems such as the increase in schema complexity, semantic inconsistency, incompleteness and scalability. This paper proposes a selective graph navigation mechanism based on a di...
متن کاملNatural Language Question Analysis for Querying Biomedical Linked Data
Biomedical knowledge is disseminated in knowledge bases which become increasingly available on the Web. While using biomedical Linked Data is crucial, life-science researchers may have difficulties using SPARQL language. Interfaces based on Natural Language question-answering are recognised to be suitable for querying knowledge bases. In this paper, we propose a method for translating natural l...
